Our range, along with the adjacent hall was built in the early 1930 by a local businessman and philanthropist who also happened to be the Colonial in chief of local T.A. The Roding Rifle and Pistol was formed in the early 1970s and ran successfully under the Stewardship of the famous and much loved husband and wife team of Janet and Terry Rayment. It's a good time to mention that in her younger days Janet shot internationally with the England team on very many occasions all over Europe. The club still insists that Janet wears her England blazer to all formal club occasions and prize giving. Terry and Janet finally retired after many years of selfless service. It was then that the committee, having signed a new lease, decided to embark on a major refurbishment of the range and club room. This huge project was completed at the end of January 2008, and the range reopened in the February, since then the club has attracted huge interest and at the close of 2008 we had 197 members, including the star of ISSU 10 metre air pistol Sylwester Los, and an extremely formidable Junior team led by Oscar Potter who at the age of 11 can outshoot many adults (several of whom have national ranking) at both 10 metre air rifle and 20 yard live fire gallery rifle. In the last year the club has become heavily involved in the training of young people participating in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme at Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels. We have now added automated target changers, just press a button to send a target down range, then another button to retrieve it. This new system also allows two different distances to be shot simultaneously (10 metre and 20 yard). This year at the home range we have included larger caliber shooting up to .38, on at least three sessions a week this allows for the use of lever action rifles, and the fast becoming popular long barreled revolver, plus small caliber muzzle loading pistols. We can now offer our members almost all disciplines with the improved facilities at our home range, and our all year round monthly visits to Bisley. Breaking News Our new fully automatied advancing target system has now been installed along with our automatied turning target system. The freshly decorated club room now has the air and ambiance of a late Victorian gentleman's club, hot and cold food is always available, plentiful snacks and chocolate and even an ice cream cabinet filled with ices during the summer months. The clubs social calendar grows by the year, we have the annual Halloween fancy dress candle shoot, numerous summer BBQs, there is also at least one prize giving, and the Christmas dinner and dance. Last Christmas Carl, Francis Rossi's old pal brought his tribute band Statin Quo as you can imagine the night rocked they were truly fabulous. These do are always good, as yet this years bookings have not been made. This is one of a new breed of shooting clubs, where there eating, drinking(soft of course), laughing and chatting, but make no mistake our shooters put in some pretty impressive scores. The club signs up to just about every competition going, in house, inter club, county and national. All members are encouraged to shoot in the comps, but they are not pushed. The club offers members free use of all calibers of rifles, air rifles and air pistols, there is no need for new members to spend money on equipment, all is freely available. Lastly The Roding Rifle and Pistol Club is a community sports association. It is not a business, it is a club to promote the sport of safe target shooting, and good companionship. Whilst the club is open Monday to Saturday, new comers are encouraged to attend on either a Tuesday or a Saturday, for a invitation please contact either Les or Cliff on the numbers below.
